HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its final weekly football awards of the 2015 season this afternoon, and Dartmouth defensive end
Cody Fulleton was honored as the Defensive Player of the Week for his performance. He is the fourth Big Green defender to earn the award this year, but just the second Dartmouth defensive lineman ever to receive it.
Fulleton, a 6-3, 280-pound senior from Seattle, Washington, spearheaded a defensive effort that held a Tiger team averaging over 30 points a game to just 10 as Dartmouth won a share of the Ivy League crown for the first time in 19 years. Of his eight tackles on the day, 2.5 went for a loss, none bigger than his third-down sack with just over two minutes left in the fourth quarter and the score tied at 10. That forced Princeton to punt, which allowed the Big Green to score the game-winning touchdown with 24 seconds to play. Fulleton also forced and recovered a fumble on the opening drive, setting the tone for the defense that forced four Tiger turnovers.
It had been 24 years since the last Dartmouth lineman — Dan Mulligan in 1991— garnered this award. Since then, 17 different Big Green defenders had the honor bestowed upon them 30 times, all of whom were either linebackers or defensive backs.
Earning a spot on the honor roll was senior quarterback
Dalyn Williams who completed 31-of-45 passes for 262 yards and the game-winning touchdown.
College Sports Madness also selected Fulleton as its Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, while STATS listed him as an honorable mention for its FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.
Dartmouth (9-1, 6-1 Ivy), ranked 20th in the nation in the STATS FCS poll that was released just before the FCS playoff pairings were announced on Sunday, finished the season in a three-way tie for the Ivy League crown for its league-best 18th title in the 60 years of the Ivy League. Only three other times has the championship finished in a three-way tie — 1966, '69 and '82 — and only the Big Green have been involved in each instance.
