HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth nickelback
Lucas Bavaro, running back
Kyle Bramble and offensive lineman
Jacob Flores were all named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District I Football Team for Division I schools as announced today by the organization.
Bavaro, a 6-0, 200-pound junior from Boxford, Massachusetts, is enjoying a fine campaign for the 6-1 Big Green having played extensively in every game, recording 20 tackles including a 20-yard sack during a 35-3 victory over Yale on Oct. 10. The son of former NFL All-Pro tight end Mark Bavaro is an economics major with a 3.31 grade point average. He has broken up four passes this season and helped Dartmouth rank among the top 10 nationally in scoring defense (10.0 points allowed per game, second), rush defense (68.3 yards per game, second), total defense (283.7 yards, seventh) and pass efficiency defense (101.54, ninth).
A 5-11, 205-pound senior from Floyds Knobs, Indiana, Bramble earned this honor for a second straight year and became the 27th player in Dartmouth history to rush for 1,000 yards in a career with his second carry of the 2015 season. An injury slowed him at the beginning of the year, but he is still third on the team with 175 yards on 39 carries — a 4.5-yard average — and his 85 yards on just eight rushes against Yale remain the most by a Big Green player this season. For his career, the engineering major with a 3.36 GPA has taken the handoff 220 times for 1,167 yards (5.3-yard average) with seven touchdowns, plus caught 55 passes for another 510 yards and eight touchdowns.
Flores, a 6-4, 290-pound senior from Arlington, Texas, is the Big Green's starting center and a religion major with a 3.47 GPA. The Texan started the last two years at left tackle before taking over the snapping duties this year, serving as the keystone to a potent offense that has amassed nearly 300 passing yards and over 435 in total yards every week, both of which rank in the top 25 among FCS schools. Like Bramble, Flores received Academic All-District status last year as well.
Of the 20 players named to the team, 13 hail from the Ivy League, with five coming from Brown, three from Harvard and two from Columbia.
The members of the various all-district teams will now go on the ballot for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 3.
