BOSTON - Kaitlin Whitehorn's victory and new school record in the high jump highlighted Friday night for the Dartmouth women's indoor track & field team at BU's Valentine Invitational.
Whitehorn cleared 5-10.75/1.80m to best her own previous record set at indoor Heps two years ago by a quarter inch. It was also nearly four inches better than anyone else in the field of 38 posted on Friday.
Allison Frantz cleared 5-7.0/1.70m, but did so on her second attempt and, despite it being the second-best mark of the day, placed fifth in the standings.
In the mile, Dana Giordano was third in the top heat as well as third overall with a 4:41.12 to her credit.
The 4x400m relay team claimed third as well in a field of 58 teams. The quartet of Marissa Evans, Eric Hendershot, Sara Kikut and Jennifer Meech combined to run a 3:45.30 and secure the strong third-place showing.
Evans would also excel in the individual 400m race, placing fifth in 55.52, beating out 146 other student-athletes and unattached runners in the process. Likewise, Hendershot was fourth in the 500m, crossing the line in 1:14.14.
Kikut was 15th in the 60m in 7.81, while the Big Green's top performer in the 60m hurdles was Lauren Ready in 23rd with a 9.03. Beatrice Goodyear (9.27) and Miranda Lawson (9.70) won their respective heats in the 60m hurdles as well.
Bridget O'Neill claimed 15th overall in a field of 180 in the 800m, crossing in 2:10.24.
