HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its weekly award winners in men's basketball this afternoon, and Dartmouth wing
Miles Wright was selected as the Rookie of the Week for his performances on the hardwood at Yale and Brown over the weekend. Wright is the first Big Green player to earn this honor since the 2011-12 campaign.
Wright, a native of Boston, Massachusetts, had scored in double figures in just three of the first 18 games with a high of 15 points before exploding for 20 against the Bulldogs and 21 more versus the Bears. The product of Tabor Academy scored seven of the first nine points at Yale and finished the night knocking down 8-of-15 field goals with a pair of three-pointers in the 81-66 defeat. The very next night, the Wright one-upped himself with his season-high 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and 7-of-9 at the foul line while hauling in a season-best six rebounds in a tough 67-64 defeat. In each of the two contests, the 6-4 freshman collected three steals and did not turn the ball over even once.
For the season, Wright has appeared in all 20 games, starting 15, averaging 7.0 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 40.7 percent overall and snagging 27 steals, one shy of the team lead. In the six conference games, the rookie is averaging just under 10 points (9.8) and has 11 steals.
This is the second weekly conference honor for Dartmouth this season as junior
Alex Mitola was the Co-Player of the Week back on Jan. 26. The last player to take home the rookie award was
Jvonte Brooks on March 5, 2012, which was the 10th rookie honor of the season split among three Big Green players.
Dartmouth (8-12, 1-5 Ivy) will host Cornell (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Columbia (Saturday, 7 p.m.) this weekend in an attempt to snap a four-game slide after playing five straight on the road. The games will be streamed live through the Big Green Insider on the Ivy League Digital Network with
Drew Galbraith calling all of the action.
