HANOVER, N.H. — After what was supposed to be six games against three teams In Long Island last week, Mother Nature threw a wrench into the Big Green's plans with snow and low temperatures canceling all but two matches. The squad played only one of two against Hofstra — which was moved to Fordham's Bahoshy Field — falling to the Pride 1-0. In the other game, an extra-inning victory against St. John's — another single game rather than doubleheader — the Big Green won 5-2 in nine innings. Both games at LIU Brooklyn were then canceled when three inches of snow hit the ground on Friday.
This week, the Big Green will trek down I-95 to warmer temperatures to meet George Washington on Tuesday and Maryland on Wednesday. The game against the Colonials is scheduled as a single seven-inning game while against the Terrapins an early evening doubleheader is set.
Dartmouth will begin Ivy League play on Friday in a rematch against Penn and then on Saturday against Columbia.

Hofstra Recap — The Dartmouth softball team dropped a tough 1-0 contest to Hofstra on Wednesday afternoon at Fordham's Bahoshy Complex. Senior Kristen Rumley tossed a complete game but allowed a lone run in the fourth inning. Rumley was very economical with her pitches (77) and struck out six of the 22 batters she faced. Hofstra's Erin Trippi drove in the only run of the contest with runners in scoring position in the fourth inning. The catcher sent a single through the left side that plated Rachel Simodejka.
St. John's Recap — With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, junior Katie McEachern was hit by a pitch, which allowed the game-winning run to cross the plate, as Dartmouth defeated St. John's, 5-2, in nine innings on Thursday afternoon in non-league play. Rumley replaced junior starter Morgan McCalmon in the seventh and breezed through the Red Storm lineup en route to her fourth win of the season. Rumley's three innings of work saw the senior ace allow two hits with two strikeouts. McCalmon pitched six strong innings in the no-decision and allowed two runs with five strikeouts.
ERA's Flattening out — Rumley and McCalmon had a rough early part of the season, but as of late both pitchers earned run averages have dropped to nearly mimic last season's numbers. McCalmon, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year finished 2014 with a 2.55 ERA with 10 wins. She is currently 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA. Rumley, the reigning Ivy League Pitcher of the Year, won 18 games a season ago with a 2.45 ERA is now 4-8 with a 2.60 ERA.
