EUGENE, Ore. — At the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship hosted by the University of Oregon at Hayward Field this afternoon, Dartmouth junior
Kaitlin Whitehorn made the most of her first appearance at nationals as she earned a spot on the All-America Second Team in the high jump by clearing 5-9.75/1.77m to tie for 12th place.
Whitehorn's quickly advanced at the opening height of 5-7.75/1.72m and needed a single try again to clear the bar at 1.77m. But she came up short in her three attempts at 5-11.25/1.81m, which would have been a career best. South Carolina's Jeannelle Schepper topped 6-2.75/1.90m on her first try, allowing her to claim the title as Kimberly Williamson of Kansas State needed three tries to clear that height.
Junior
Dana Giordano, making her sixth appearance at a national event for the Big Green, ran in the 5000m and unfortunately could not find the form that she displayed at regionals, though she started strong. During the first lap she was right on the heels of the eventual champion, Emily Sisson of Providence (15:34.10), who led wire-to-wire. But Giordano gradually fell back in the pack and came in 23rd — one place behind her finish in the event last year — with a time of 17:12.54.
