“I'm really excited I get to continue to be a part of Dartmouth softball,” Rumley said. “Over the past few years as a player I have gotten to see the program grow and I am even more excited to see how that all continues.”
The three-time Ivy League Pitcher of the Year is the most decorated player in program history and brings a wealth of in-game knowledge and experience to her new position as the pitching coach. Rumley owns the Dartmouth career record with 60 wins, 669 strikeouts, 19 shutouts, 60 complete games, 661.2 innings pitched and 127 appearances. She is second in earned run average at 2.13 behind Danica Giugliano '04 at 1.86.
In her four years with the Big Green, Rumley was named the team's Most Valuable Player each season and was recognized as a senior with the Kenneth Archibald Prize, which is presented annually to “the member of the graduating class who has been four years in attendance, who has been the best all-around athlete, regard also being had to moral worth and high standing in scholarship.”
Rumley was instrumental during all four years with the Big Green aiding the squad to three straight Ivy League North Division titles and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.
The southpaw racked up awards and achievements throughout her career and became the fifth Big Green to toss a no-hitter when she fanned nine against Columbia on Mar. 28. In total, Rumley has garnered 11 Ivy weekly awards and three First Team All-Ivy recognitions.
“I am very excited to bring Kristen on staff, she had a huge impact on this program and is someone who truly wants to see this program succeed,” Doepking said. “She was a tremendous pitcher with a wealth of knowledge and I'm eager to see the impact she will have on our pitching staff.”
Rumley will also be tasked as the camp coordinator, academic liaison, help with recruiting, planning practice and video coordinator.
