HANOVER, N.H. — Molly Fichtner, a former All-SEC and CoSIDA Academic All-American has been named an assistant coach of the two-time Ivy League defending Dartmouth softball team, as announced by head coach Shannon Doepking.
“ I'm very excited to welcome Molly to the Dartmouth family," Doepking said. "I think she is going to be a great addition and will bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to the program. She truly is a student of the game and someone who want to be the best coach they possibly can be which is what made Molly the perfect candidate."
Fichtner, a 2014 graduate of Alabama, joins the staff — along with first-year assistant Kristen Rumley '15 — after spending last season at her alma mater as a volunteer assistant coach.
The Houston, Texas, native started her collegiate career at UT-San Antonio before transferring to Tuscaloosa for her final two seasons. At Alabama, Fichtner appeared in 102 games, starting 88. As a senior, she was named Second Team All-SEC after leading the Crimson Tide with a .391 average in conference play, knocking in 27 hits, seven doubles and 16 RBI. She threw out a conference-leading seven would-be base stealers and suffered just two errors in 125 chances with no passed balls behind the dish for a .984 fielding percentage in SEC play. As a senior, Fichtner and the Crimson reached the Women's College World Series, but fell to the Florida Gators.
At UTSA, Fichtner was a two-time All-Southland Conference player, the 2011 Southland Freshman of the Year and the 2012 Southland's Student-Athlete of the Year.
