THIS WEEKEND
Following a 2-0 week that included shut outs of Albany (2-0) and Vermont (6-0), the Dartmouth women's soccer team is back in action, traveling to Brookline to face Northeastern at 6 p.m. on Friday and hosting Sacred Heart at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT
Holding a 1-0 lead entering the second half, the Big Green exploded for five goals in a 17-minute span to run away from visiting Vermont in a 6-0 victory on Sunday afternoon in the team's home opener. Lucielle Kozlov, Meredith Gurnee and Jessica Lukas each scored two goals to help Dartmouth win its second straight game, with Lukas tallying the first two goals of her collegiate career. The Green outshot the Catamounts by a 16-4 margin, but 12-0 in the second half. Sarah Martin had half of Vermont's shots in the game, but goalkeepers Casey Cousineau and Katie Fuhs did not have to turn away even one in combining for the shutout.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Although Northeastern started its season with a 4-1 loss to South Carolina, the Huskies had been on a five-game winning streak following defeats of Furman, Saint Joseph's, UMass Lowell, Boston University and Maine before Boston College cut the streak short with a 1-0 victory over the Huskies last Friday. On Sunday, Northeastern got back on the winning side of things with a 2-0 win against Rhode Island. Kayla Cappuzzo leads the team with five goals and two assists for 12 points.
LAST TIME AGAINST NORTHEASTERN
On Sept. 19, 2014, Kozlov scored the game-winning goal with 14 seconds remaining in double-overtime to give Dartmouth a 1-0 win over Northeastern at Burnham Field. Meredith Gurnee dribbled towards the net and forced Huskies' keeper Paige Burnett to play the ball, but a wide-open pass to the far post secured the winner for Kozlov.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Sacred Heart, whose 27-player team is made up of 14 freshmen, has had a rocky start to its season, picking up just two wins against Stony Brook and Canisius while dropping four others. Most recently, the Pioneers suffered a 1-0 overtime loss to Hartford and a 4-0 loss to Yale two days apart. On Friday, at the same time as Dartmouth's game at Northeastern, Sacred Heart will host Iona. Leading the Pioneers is Alex Mesropyan with her three goals for six points.
LAST TIME AGAINST SACRED HEART
On Sept. 30, 2014, the Pioneers' Kristin Verrette found the back of the net in the 95th minute to give Sacred Heart a 1-0 win over Dartmouth in overtime at Campus Field. The Big Green finished the contest outshooting the Pioneers, 22-11, and had many opportunities to score, forcing goalie Talia Schwartz to make 13 saves.
RAINEY AND COMPANY
In his first season with the Big Green in 2014, head coach Ron Rainey compiled a record of 8-5-4 and a 3-1-3 mark in Ivy League play. Joining Rainey on the bench are Grace Barnard, who is in her second season as an assistant coach, and Cord Farmer, who joined Dartmouth after spending last season at Nevada.
CAPTAINS
The Green are led by Corey Delaney, Jackie Friedman and Kozlov, who are all entering their final season on the field. So far this season, Kozlov leads the trio with 10 points from five goals.
FRESH FACES
Opening their collegiate careers this year and making up a 10-player freshman class are Remy Borinsky, Chloe Conacher, Jaclyn Engel, Stephanie Everett, Julia Fissore-O'Leary, Katie Harris, Lauren Lucas, Ellen Pattinson, Lillian Raffetto and Sally Sandoval. Leading the group so far is Lucas, who has registered four points off a goal and a pair of assists.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
In net, Cousineau has made 15 saves, has a save percentage of .510 in 352 minutes of action and a record of 2-1-1. Fuhs is 1-0-0 after picking up the team's first win of the season against Marist back in August. She has made three saves and has not allowed a goal thus far.
