No. 18 Hofstra Pride (6-1-0)
Date: Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 – 5 p.m.
Location: Hanover, N.H. – Burnham Field
All-Time Series: Dartmouth, 2-1-0
Last Time: Sept. 14, 2014 – W, 2-1 (Hempstead, N.Y.)
SATURDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth men's soccer team will be back in action at home this weekend with a single game Saturday evening against Hofstra at 5 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green are coming off an 0-2 weekend in the Pacific Northwest with two one-goal losses at Washington and Seattle. In both games, Dartmouth saw second-half leads disappear to the home teams with Sunday's result against the Redhawks coming thanks in part to playing down a man for a majority of the final stanza.
SCOUTING THE PRIDE
Hofstra comes to Hanover with a No. 18 ranking in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. The top-25 ranking comes in large part due to the Pride's impressive 6-1-0 overall record. In the latest outing, Hofstra defeated then-No. 24 UNC Wilmington, 2-1, last Saturday. The lone loss of the season came at No. 21 American on Sept. 11 and accounted for two of just five goals allowed in seven games to date this fall. Joseph Holland and Meshack Eshun Addy each have scored four goals, but Holland sits atop the team scoring leader board with 12 points thanks to his four assists, two more than Eshun Addy. Patric Pray has three shutouts, a 0.71 goals against average and an .857 save percentage playing all 630 minutes in goal this fall.
AGAINST HOFSTRA
Saturday will mark the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs with the Big Green holding a 2-1-0 advantage. These two met last season in Hempstead, New York, with the Green taking a 2-1 win back with them to the Upper Valley.
UNBEATEN STREAK STARTS…
The 2014 contest in which Dartmouth came away with a one-goal win sparked an eight-game unbeaten streak (7-0-1) that helped the Big Green to an impressive campaign, resulting in an NCAA Tournament berth. The win also came after an 0-2 road trip in Indiana against Notre Dame and the Hoosiers, a scheduling anomaly that the Green hope to once again duplicate this weekend.
FIRST CAREER GOAL!
Freshman Eduvie Ikoba got on the scoresheet for the first time in his collegiate career in just his fifth game. Ikoba finished off a long throw into the box from Tyler Dowse in the fifth minute against ninth-ranked Washington last Friday night.
LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN
Dartmouth is still looking for its first multi-goal scorer of 2015 as all seven goals have come from seven different players so far. Yima Asom's goal in the 47th minute of the Seattle game made him the seventh different individual on this year's roster to notch a marker. Ikoba remains the only player to have both a goal and an assist this fall as he leads the team with three points.
ACADEMICS ARE IMPORTANT!
Dartmouth was recognized by the NSCAA as one of the recipients of the 2014-15 Men's Team Academic Award. To be considered for this honor, a program must register a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. As a team, the Big Green posted a 3.18 GPA last year.
AROUND THE IVY LEAGUE
With league play kicking off next week, the Ancient Eight has several teams who have faltered in non-conference play while others have stepped up with big performances. Columbia is 4-1 with Brown not far back at 3-2. Princeton (2-2) and Dartmouth (2-3-1) are the two-win teams and Harvard (1-3-2), Cornell (1-6-1) and Yale (1-5) make up the three-team contingent with a single triumph. Penn (0-5-1) is still seeking its first victory of 2015.
