PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to seven games with a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at Brown in the 2015 Ivy League opener for both teams.
The Big Green are now 5-0-2 in their last seven outings and are 6-1-2 overall this fall. Brown's record moves to 3-4-1 overall and the same 0-0-1 Ivy mark.
Dartmouth goalkeeper Casey Cousineau turned aside four shots in picking up her second solo shutout of the season.
“I'm really proud of how hard the team worked through 110 minutes today,” head coach Ron Rainey said. “We did a nice job of limiting their chances and we had some of our own, but neither team could get one on the board this afternoon.
“Both teams worked really hard to start the Ivy League season,” Rainey continued. “We have to shift our focus from this one pretty quickly to Maine on Tuesday.”
A relatively clean game with no cards issued to either side, Dartmouth held a 23-16 edge in shot attempts. Of those combined 39 bids, only 11 found their way on goal with the visitors credited for seven.
Brown's Christine Etzel stopped all seven of those shots for her second shutout of the season. Etzel had to make a save in each of the 10-minute overtime sessions, while Cousineau stopped one in the second OT.
Dartmouth had two opportunities to break the 0-0 game in the extra stanzas with a corner kick in each. The Bears also had a corner play in the second extra frame, but were unable to break the strong defense of the visitors. In all, the Green and White held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Big Green will play the Black Bears Tuesday night at the neutral-site venue at Hill Stadium in Saco, Maine.
