HANOVER, N.H. – The Big Green women's track & field team took the crown at the 47th Annual Dartmouth Relays Sunday at Leverone Field House.
For the women, it was the sixth straight year in which they won their showcase home meet and the tenth team title since 2003. Dartmouth claimed this year's crown with a 177-point showing, 115 more than second-place UMass Lowell.
Almost half of the team's point total came from nine event titles from the Big Green, including a win by the 4x400m (3:54.85) group in the final race of the day.
Sunday's biggest winner was senior Kaitlin Whitehorn who claimed victories in both the 60m (7.55) and the high jump (5-8.50/1.74m).
Dartmouth also saw wins in the mile (Grace Thompson, 5:02.61), 800m (Aliyah Gallup, 2:15.97), 400m (Jennifer Meech, 56.83), long jump (Kayla Gilding, 17-9.0/5.41m) and the pole vault (Kaitlin McCallum, 12-0.0/3.66m).
Helen Schlachtenhaufen won the 3000m as well with a 9:51.88, which was 20 seconds ahead of second-place Olivia Lantz.
A remarkable showing in the 800m saw the Big Green take six of the top-seven spots, while Dartmouth also had four of eight runners in the finals of both the 60m and 60m hurdles. Similarly, the Green got the top three spots in the pole vault.
Dartmouth will remain in Hanover the next two Saturdays with a pair of home meets at Leverone ahead on the schedule.
