HANOVER, N.H. — The 52 student-athletes of the 18th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic All-Star Team were announced by the FCS ADA today, and Dartmouth's
Jacob Flores was among the select players chosen from the 96 nominees. The Ivy League had three student-athletes named to the team, while the Big Sky Conference led all conferences with nine.
“The FCS ADA is proud to recognize its Academic All-Star Team for the 18th consecutive year,” stated FCS ADA President Jeff Tingey, the director of athletics at Idaho State. “It is extremely admirable what our football student-athletes continue to accomplish in the classroom and on the field, and we are excited to recognize them for their efforts.”
Flores, a 6-4, 290-pound senior, took over the snapping duties as the Big Green center this year and excelled in his new role. Named to the All-Ivy League First Team as well as the All-New England Team (comprised of players from both the FBS and FCS), Flores had earned a GPA of 3.47 entering his senior year as a religion major. He was a big part of the line that helped this year's squad score nearly 29 points and gain 410 yards per game as Dartmouth earned a share of the Ivy League title for the first time in 19 years. A product of Arlington, Texas, Flores started every game on the line the last three years, helping the Big Green post a 23-7 record while protecting quarterback Dalyn Willliams on his march to Big Green career records for passing yards and total yards.
Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision institutions are eligible for the award. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position.
In the 18 years the Academic All-Star Team has been named, Dartmouth has had
13 players selected a total of 17 times.
