THIS WEEK'S GAMES
The Dartmouth women's basketball team welcomes a pair of Patriot League opponents to Hanover with games this week against Holy Cross on Nov. 23 and Army on Nov. 26.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Holy Cross, led by long-time head coach Bill Gibbons, heads into Wednesday's match having won just one of its last four games. The Crusader's opened the season with a three-game slide before defeating Marist, 50-46. With the exception of its game against Quinnipiac, Holy Cross' first two losses of the season were determined by five points or less. Through four games, Infiniti Thomas-Waheed is the Crusaders' top scorer, averaging 16.3 points per game. Lauren Manis is averaging 11.3 points while controlling the boards, grabbing a team-high 10.3 per game.
LAST TIME AGAINST HOLY CROSS
On Dec. 21, 2016, the Big Green defeated Holy Cross, 60-54 in Worcester thanks in part to tough defensive pressure down the stretch. Dartmouth won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding Holy Cross, 36-22 in a total team-effort where the Big Green bench outscored the Crusaders by nine points. Senior Lakin Roland led all scorers with 24 points as Kate Letkewicz tallied 10 points.
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS
Army is 2-1 in its last three games and will play fellow service academy, Air Force before visiting Leede Arena. The Black Knights opened the season with a, 68-47, victory over LIU Brooklyn, before falling, 65-59, to Albany. On Nov. 18 Army eked out a, 59-55, win over Yale in West Point, New York. The defending Patriot League champions are led by sophomore forward Madison Hovren, who averages 20 points per game. Junior Aliyah Murray has also been consistent, averaging 9.7 points with a team-high 8.3 rebounds.
LAST TIME AGAINST ARMY
On Nov. 20, 2004, Dartmouth defeated Army, 73-68, at West Point. Jeannie Cullen led the Big Green with 14 points in as many minutes of action, going 4-for-5 from the field and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Dartmouth won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Black Knights 20-17, six of which came from Elise Morrison.
CLASS OF 2020
The Big Green's freshman class is comprised of Annie McKenna, Grace Phillips, Danielle Nieters, Gabby Hunter, Julianna Thomson and Paula Lenart. By position, the class is made up of two guards (McKenna and Phillips), three forwards (Nieters, Hunter and Thomson), while Lenart looks to make an impact as a guard/forward.
NOT COLD AS ICE
Sophomore Isalys “Ice” Quiñones has performed well for the Big Green in her new role as a starter. The 6-3 forward has started back-to-back games and recorded her first career double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds in Dartmouth's, 61-51, win to open the season.
REWRITING THE RECORD BOOKS
The Big Green's lone senior, Fanni Szabo has been climbing on some of Dartmouth's all-time records' lists. With 1,048 career points, Szabo is in sole possession of 16th in the all-time scoring category. She is also 6th in both three-point field goals made and attempted.
LIVE FROM LEEDE
For the first time in recent years, Big Green basketball returns to the airwaves as each home game will be broadcast live on KOOL FM 93.9/96.3. Brett Franklin will serve as the team's play-by-play broadcaster with Jill Glessner on color commentary.
