THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
After a weekend that saw the Dartmouth women's basketball team play back-to-back overtime games, the Big Green host Princeton on Friday and league leading Penn on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
Last Saturday, Dartmouth fell to Cornell 71-58 in overtime in a game that saw 11 lead changes. Senior Lakin Roland led the Big Green with 19 points and 16 rebounds, good for her third straight double-double. With 1:11 left to play in regulation, Roland drained a three to tie the contest at 56. In the extra frame, Dartmouth could not find its offensive footing, as the Big Red made crucial free in the game's final five minutes.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Defending Ivy League champion Princeton heads into this weekend with the second best overall record in the conference at 13-4. After being ranked in the AP Top 25 to start the season, the Tigers were tripped up in their first Ivy League game of the season, falling to Penn 50-48 in Philadelphia. Since then, Princeton has won two straight against Ancient Eight foes Brown and Yale. The Tigers have three players who average more than 12 points per game including Alex Wheatley, who is second in the conference in field goal percentage at 53.5.
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS
Penn is enjoying a successful 2015-16 campaign having won nine of its last 10 games. The Quakers currently sit atop the Ivy League standings as the only undefeated team in the conference. Recently Penn took down both Yale and Brown at the Palestra, as head coach Mike McLaughlin became the second coach in Quakers history to record 100 wins in the City of Brotherly Love. Penn has the top two rebounders among the Ancient Eight in Michelle Nwokedi and Sydney Stipanovich who both average more than 10 boards per game.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
With their overtime win over Columbia, the Big Green jumped three spots in the conference standing to fifth place.
MIND ON THE ROAD
Friday's game will be Dartmouth's first home game in nearly a month. The last time the Big Green played in front of a home crowd was on Jan. 9 against Harvard. Dartmouth has faired well on the road this season, posting a 5-5 record.
TOUGH ON THE BOARDS
Roland is currently second in the Ivy League in total rebounds with 177 averaging 8.9 per game. She is also 10th on the Big Green's all-time rebounds list with 666 career boards. Not far behind Roland is sophomore Kate Letkewicz who is sixth among Ancient Eight teams with 144 rebounds.
SUCCESS BEHIND THE ARC
Dartmouth has found success this season from three-point range. As a team, the Big Green shoot .328 from beyond the arc compared to their opponents .309. Letkewicz leads the team, draining 37 of 106 from three-point range.
