THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
The Dartmouth softball team (7-8) continues its West Coast swing by playing in the inaugural Aggie Spring Swing Invitational in Davis, California.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green took down Stanford 4-1, in extra innings on Tuesday. The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning when sophomore Tiffany Dyson knocked in an RBI single to give Dartmouth the 1-0 lead. The Cardinal would tie the game on a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh to send the contest into extra innings. In the top half of the eighth, freshman Morgan Martinelli hit a double to drive in the eventual game-winning run. The Big Green added three more runs in the inning to preserve the 4-1 victory. Dartmouth's Morgan McCalmon picked up the victory to improve to 5-3 on the season.
SCOUTING THE GAELS
Iona heads into the weekend after participating at the Santa Clara Round Robin Tournament where the Gaels went 1-5, including 7-2 and 6-3 losses to the Big Green. Now 5-10 on the season, Iona will square off with the Green and White again on Friday. Kristen Turner leads the Gaels with 21 hits and 11 RBIs this season. She also has a team-best batting average of .429 in 49 plate appearances. In the circle, Iona possesses depth with four pitchers with at least one win. Christine Costello is 1-3 with a team-best 2.97 ERA in 33.1 innings of work, while Alana Evans leads the team in strikeouts with 14.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Pacific is 13-11 on the young season and has won three of its last five games, most recently with a sweep of Colgate at home. The Tigers have been solid in the second half of games this season with a 12-0 record when Pacific is leading after four innings. Sara Anderson leads the team with 26 hits and is batting .371. In the circle, Marissa Young has emerged as the Tigers' top pitcher with a 6-4 record and team-best 3.39 ERA. Megan Walters has also been solid with two saves this season.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
UC Davis (9-13) heads into this weekend's tournament after its last tournament was canceled due to rain. On March 12, the Aggies snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 5-0 win over Stony Brook. Brianna Warner has been a scoring threat for UC Davis all season with a team-high 24 hits and 19 runs through 22 games. Leah Munden has pitched well for the Aggies with a 6-4 record and 3.97 ERA in 18 appearances.
FINAL TUNE UP
For Dartmouth, the Aggie Spring Swing will be the final non-conference tournament of the regular season. The Big Green open up conference play with doubleheaders at Princeton and Cornell on April 1 and April 2.
MAKING AN IMPACT EARLY
Martinelli has made her presence known on the diamond in her rookie season. She currently leads the team with 17 hits including a team-high six doubles.
IT'S OUTTA HERE
McEachern has been a scoring threat for Dartmouth all season. She is currently tied for first in the Ivy League with four home runs, including a grand slam against South Alabama. As a team, the Big Green are tied for fourth among the Ancient Eight teams in total home runs with six.
SUCCESS IN THE CIRCLE
With a 5-3 record in eight starts, senior Morgan McCalmon has been Dartmouth's top pitcher this season. In 41.1 innings of work she has 40 strikeouts and has surrendered just 16 walks. Sophomore Breanna Ethridge has also been successful in the circle for the Big Green with a team best 3.97 ERA, she leads the league in saves (3) and has struck out 28 batters.
