HANOVER, N.H. – No. 46 Dartmouth women's tennis returned to Hanover after spending Spring Break in California, defeating Houston, 6-1, in its first match back at the Boss Tennis Center in over a month. The Big Green improved to 9-3 on the season, while the Cougars fell to 4-15.
Wins at the No. 1 and 2 doubles positions gave the first point to the home team. The sixteenth-ranked pairing of junior Taylor Ng and sophomore Kristina Mathis had a 6-2 victory over Despoina Vogasari and Rocio Martin at No. 1, and at No. 2, senior Katherine Yau and sophomore Julia Schroeder defeated Maria Cardenas and Tina Rupert, 6-3.
In singles action, freshman Allison Chuang and Schroeder put the next two points on the board. Chuang had a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cardenas at the No. 6 position, while Schroeder defeated Lorenzo, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5. A 6-1, 7-6(4) victory by Yau over Mina Markovic at No. 2 clinched the win for Dartmouth.
Ng made it 6-0 at No. 1 by defeating No. 91 Vogasari by scores of 6-3, 7-6(8). The Cougars got their one point of the day in a three-set win at the No. 3 position to end the match.
Dartmouth will open Ivy League play next weekend, hosting Columbia on Friday and Cornell the next day, with both matches beginning at 2 p.m.
