HANOVER, N.H. – No. 49 Dartmouth women's tennis opened Ivy League play on Friday, falling to No. 37 Columbia by a score of 6-1 at the Boss Tennis Center.
The Big Green dipped to 9-4 and 0-1 in conference play, while the Lions improved to 10-4 and remain undefeated in Ivy matches with a 2-0 mark.
Columbia took the doubles point with victories at the No. 3 and 3 positions. At No. 1, junior Taylor Ng and sophomore Kristina Mathis – who are ranked No. 15 in the latest ITA National rankings – were leading Rima Asatrian and Alexandra Solovyev, 5-4, when the match was ended early.
A 6-4, 6-3 win by senior Katherine Yau over Asatrian at No. 2 tied the score at 1-1, but a Lion victory at the No. 6 position put Columbia back on top. The four remaining singles matches all went to three sets, with the visitors being victorious in all of them and the match being clinched at No. 5.
Dartmouth returns to the Boss Tennis Center on Saturday with a 2 p.m. match against Cornell.
