THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
The Dartmouth women's basketball team has a chance to play the spoiler role this weekend when the Big Green travel to league-leading Penn and Princeton for the final two games of the season.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth is coming off a hard fought 65-62 loss to Yale at home on Senior Night. Down 33-31 at the half, the Big Green nearly pulled off another comeback thanks in part to sophomore Kate Letkewicz's best performance of the season. She finished the night with a career-high 27 points which included a long three-pointer with less than 15 seconds left to pull her team within a point of the lead.
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS
The final undefeated team in the Ivy League was upset by Cornell 51-46 last Friday as Penn is now tied with Princeton for first place in the conference. Previously the Quakers had won eight straight and now have won nine of their last 10 games with a 60-42 victory over Columbia last Sunday. Penn's offense is led by Michelle Nwokedi who averages 13.8 points per game. The Quakers also have a scoring threat in Sydney Stipanovich who averages 13.4 points per game and grabs a conference-best 10.3 boards per game.
LAST TIME AGAINST PENN
On Feb. 6, Penn defeated Dartmouth 56-41 at Leede Arena. Senior Lakin Roland led the Big Green with 21 points including five quick points in the third quarter which cut the Quakers lead to one point. With 31 seconds to play in the game, the lights went dark in Hanover due to a power outage. The contest concluded under emergency lights and did not play a factor in the final decision as Dartmouth was down by 14 points when the power went out.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Princeton is currently on a 10 game winning streak and has not lost to an Ancient Eight team since Jan. 9 when the Tigers fell 50-48 to Penn. Recently Princeton defeated Columbia on the road 77-48 before taking down Cornell 94-57 in Ithaca. The Tigers offense is led by three players who average double-digits in scoring including Michelle Miller who averages 14.2 points per game. Miller is also one of the best three-point shooters in the Ivy League, with a league-leading 44.2 three-point percentage.
LAST TIME AGAINST PRINCETON
On Feb. 5, the Big Green fell to Princeton 85-48 at Leede Arena. It was the first game back for junior Fanni Szabo after she returned to the lineup from an injury. Letkewicz led Dartmouth with 17 points and seven rebounds.
SPOIL CITY
The Big Green have a chance to spoil either the Tigers or Penn's chances at winning the Ivy League title. Should the Quakers and Princeton win both their games this weekend, the championship will come down to the final game of the season between the two travel partners on March 8.
CLUB 1,000
Last weekend, Szabo became the 18th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points when she hit a jumper at the 8:45 mark against the Bulldogs.
SUCCESS BEHIND THE ARC
Dartmouth has found success this season from three-point range. As a team, the Big Green shoot .333 from beyond the arc compared to their opponents .308. Letkewicz leads the team, draining 56 of 151 from three-point range and is sixth in the Ivy League in three-point percentage at 37.1.
