PRINCETON, N.J. – The Dartmouth women's basketball team fell at Princeton, 68-42 in the final game of the 2015-16 season on Saturday night.
The loss drops the Big Green to 12-18 overall, 7-7 in the Ivy League, while the Tigers improve to 23-4, 12-1 in the conference.
Despite the loss, Dartmouth will finish fourth in the Ivy League after Brown defeated Cornell, clinching the Big Green's best finish since 2009.
“I'm very proud of them. said head coach Belle Koclanes. “This season has been about finishing in the top four and it's a goal that we set out for. We focused on it and grinded it out each day, this group of young women deserves it.”
It was also the final game for Dartmouth seniors Daisy Jordan and Lakin Roland. Jordan led her team with nine points, while Roland tallied seven against a stingy Princeton defense.
The Tigers finished the contest shooting 50 percent from the field, as Princeton also won the battle on the boards 45-24.
In the first quarter the Big Green's only lead of the game came off long jumper from sophomore Kate Letkewicz which gave Dartmouth a 4-2 advantage. The Tigers preceded to go on an 8-0 run, which was broken up by a basket by Jordan. By the end of the quarter, the Big Green found themselves down 21-6.
On Dartmouth's first possession of the second, freshman Kealy Brown stole the ball and charged down the floor for the layup. Princeton however, continued to dictate play taking a 34-13 lead by halftime buzzer.
Dartmouth came out of the locker room strong with a 7-0 run after back-to-back field goals by Jordan. The Tigers thwarted any chance for a comeback after Princeton opened up a 12-0 run. At the end of the third, the Big Green trailed 53-27.
“We had a much better second half,” Koclanes said. “We lost the second half by five and we play one quarter at a time. We had a tough first quarter and Princeton has weapons from A to Z. They are very talented and play high tempo.”
Dartmouth ended the game 9 for 18 from the free throw line and tied Princeton 15-15 in the fourth quarter.
