HANOVER, N.H. – For the first time this season, three members of the Dartmouth softball team swept the Ivy League Weekly Awards as senior Katie McEachern was named Ivy League Player of the Week, senior Morgan McCalmon was tabbed as Co-Pitcher of the Week and freshman Morgan Martinelli earned Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
For McEachern it is the second time she's earned a weekly accolade this season and it's the fifth weekly honor of her career. The San Diego, California native is also the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year and was the conference's Rookie of the Year in 2013.
The shortstop had quite the weekend for herself helping Dartmouth remain he only undefeated team in Ivy League play.
In the Big Green's 12-1 victory over Penn in Game 2 last Friday, McEachern hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give her team a 7-1 lead. In Game 2 against Columbia, she went 3-for-3 with a triple, a two-run homer and three-run home run in the Big Green's 12-2 rout of the Lions. With the two long-balls, McEachern now leads the Ivy League with nine home runs on the season.
McCalmon had a decent weekend in the circle for Dartmouth. She earned the win on Friday in Game 1 against the Quakers, pitching all eight innings with six strikeouts, allowing just two hits. The Norman, Oklahoma native followed up her decent outing with another two-hit performance in a 7-0 win over Columbia on Saturday. In that game, McCalmon lasted six innings and struck out five. For McCalmon it is the fifth weekly award in her career in Hanover.
The final honoree for the Big Green this week was Martinelli who took home her second Rookie of the Week award for a great performance at the plate. Martinelli went 7-for-12 on the weekend with three doubles, a triple and four RBIs. She batted .583 between the four games and established a .667 OBP.
After Tuesday's doubleheader against UMass Lowell, Dartmouth will return to Ivy League play with doubleheaders at Brown next Saturday and Sunday.
