THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
After splitting last weekend's four games with Yale, the Dartmouth softball team will play Harvard in a home-and-home series to close out the 2016 regular season.
LAST TIME OUT
Last Sunday, after falling 1-0 in Game 1, the Big Green defeated the Bulldogs 6-1 in the second game of the afternoon doubleheader. Sophomore Breanna Ethridge got her 10th win of the season, tossing five innings where she allowed just three hits and two walks. Dartmouth's offense came alive in the second inning when the Big Green took an early 4-0 lead. The Big Green added to their advantage in the fourth when junior Chloe Madill hit a two-run homer to put her team ahead 6-0. Freshman Lauren Stone came in to pitch in relief in the sixth inning where she earned the save, preserving the 6-1 win.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard has been one of the hottest teams in the North Division having won six straight after the Crimson swept Brown in Cambridge last weekend. Harvard is currently undefeated at home, but is .500 on the road at 7-7. At the plate, the Crimson are led by freshman infielder Rhianna Rich, who is having a fantastic rookie season with a team-leading 52 hits and .377 batting average. Freshman Meagan Lantz is also having a decent season with a team-high seven home runs and 36 RBIs. In the circle Harvard's top pitcher, Taylor Cabe is 14-3 with a 2.73 ERA in 20 appearances.
STILL LEADING THE PACK
Dartmouth still sits atop the North Division standings with just two league losses. The Crimson are behind Dartmouth in second, followed by Yale and Brown. Princeton leads the South Division at 10-6, while Penn is second at 7-9 and Columbia sits in third at 5-11.
WIN (TWO) AND YOU'RE IN
This weekend if the Big Green win at least two games or more they will take the North Division crown for the third consecutive season and will host the Ivy League Championship series on May 7. If Dartmouth comes away with just one victory in the series against Harvard, the Crimson will be North Division champion.
RISING IN THE RANKINGS
The Big Green are currently leading the Ivy League in two batting categories with 14 triples and an on base percentage of .358.
IN THE CIRCLE
Senior pitcher Morgan McCalmon has emerged as Dartmouth's ace with a league-leading 15 wins and is second in the conference in strikeouts (102) and saves (3). Ethridge is also having a solid year with a team-best 1.94 ERA in 21 appearances. She also leads the Ivy League with five saves. As a team, the Big Green lead the Ancient Eight with a league-best 2.64 ERA.
FRESHMAN IMPACT
Morgan Martinelli is having a fantastic rookie season in Hanover. This season she's captured two Ivy League Rookie of the Week awards and has 12 multi-hit games. Martinelli is batting .389 with a team-best 12 doubles and 21 RBIs.
