HANOVER, N.H. – Abbey D'Agostino '14 is headed to Rio and the 2016 Summer Olympic games to compete for the United States in the 5000m.
Roughly 24 hours after finishing fifth in the 5000m final of the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials In Eugene, Oregon, D'Agostino was added to the American roster after both Molly Huddle (1st) and Emily Infeld (4th) both withdrew to focus their attention on the 10,000m.
The most decorated student-athlete in the history of the Ivy League, D'Agostino won seven national championships in her four years in Hanover. Included in that figure were four national titles in the 5000m with two in each of the indoor and outdoor seasons.
The Topsfield, Massachusetts, native will now head to Brazil to represent her country in August. The first round of the women's 5000m will get underway on the morning of Monday, August 15 at 8:30 a.m. EDT.
D'Agostino joins Sean Furey '04 (javelin) on Team USA, while her former teammate on both the cross country and track teams Lexi Pappas '12 will become the first woman ever to represent Greece in the 10,000m at the Summer Games.
