QUECHEE, Vt. — The Dartmouth men's golf hosted its only home tournament of the fall today, the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge, finishing the first round in ninth place at 12-over par with an even 300. Junior
Ian Kelsey was the top performer for the Big Green, tying for fifth with a two-under 70.
Rhode Island separated itself from the other 14 teams participating at the par-72, 6,671-yard course by carding a nine-under 279 as a team, seven strokes ahead of Penn. Tied atop the leaderboard with a 68 (-4) were Billy Waithouse of Rhode Island, Josh Goldenberg of Penn and Ryan Allison of Colgate, while Penn's Carter Thompson completed the course in fourth just one stroke back.
Kelsey was joined by six other golfers at two-under par, including a Rhode Island duo. Sophomore
John Lazor tied for 20th with a one-over 73, and freshman
Will Bednarz provided a three-over 75 to tie for 33rd. Rounding out the Big Green scoring was junior
Scott Jaster with an 82 (+10).
A second Dartmouth squad also competed, placing 14th on the afternoon as sophomore
Reed Russ led the group with a three-over 73 to match Lazor.
The competition resumes tomorrow with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
