Harvard Crimson (8-6, 0-1 Ivy)
Date: Saturday, January 20 at 6 p.m.
Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts – Lavietes Pavilion
SATURDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth women's basketball team travels to Cambridge, Massachusetts to take on Harvard for the second time this season after two weeks off.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Two weeks ago, Harvard came to Hanover to take on Dartmouth and fell 63-56. In between the two Ivy League matchups, the Crimson faced La Salle on January 10, taking a 70-61 win at home led by Jeannie Boehm with 19 points and Sydney Skinner who scored 16 off the bench. Sophomore Katie Benzan continues to lead the Harvard offense, averaging 12.1 points per game, with senior guard Taylor Rooks not far behind with a 12-point average.
LAST TIME AGAINST HARVARD
On Saturday, January 6, the Big Green took down the Crimson at home for the first time since January 2013. Led by junior guard Cy Lippold who dropped 19 points to carry the team to victory, while senior Olivia Smith scored 12 points and Isalys Quiñones posted 10. Dartmouth was leading by 12 heading into halftime, but the road squad wasn't going to give in quietly, tying the third quarter and winning the fourth, but the comeback effort would not prove successful. Late free throws from junior Kealy Brown and Lippold secured the win for the Big Green with not enough time for Harvard to catch up.
SHOOTING STRONG
Through 14 games, three members of the Big Green are averaging double-digits each game, as the team is aiming to score around 70 points a game, more players are stepping up into scoring roles. Last season, Lippold wasn't the starting guard, but she averaged 2.1 points per game through 16 games; now as the starter, she's has an average of 14.1. Senior Kate Letkewicz was the leading scorer last year, averaging 11.2 points per game, now she is second with 12.3. Quiñones is the third player averaging in double-digits, with a 10.4-point average. The trio have posted a .426 shooting percentage between the three from field goal range.
TRIPS TO THE LINE
With a free throw shooting percentage of 77.4, it's no secret that Dartmouth can make its free throws, but the key is getting to the line. Against Harvard this was not an issue with 10 shots made of 10 attempts, but against other teams the Big Green has struggled to draw fouls, which can be key for closing gaps, especially on the road, on another team's home court.
