The following exchange was originally printed in a condensed form in the Sacred game program. The complete discussion is printed here to allow fans to get to know some of the Big Green players a little better.
DartmouthSports: What made you want to attend Dartmouth?
Jackson Perry: The idea of being able to play Division I athletics and have a great educational experience. I fell in love with the campus from my first visit. The football program's recruiting pitch explained what Dartmouth could do for me, not just what I could do for their program. That was very different than the other programs I talked to.
Dylan Mellor: It has been a lifelong dream of mine to take my family's name to an upper echelon. The opportunity to become not only an Ivy League graduate, but a Dartmouth graduate, was something really significant to me.
DS: What is one memory from your time with the Big Green that you will never forget?
JP: The 2015 Ivy League Championship, or my first tackle against Georgetown in 2015.
DM: My freshman year, we beat Brown in week eight and as we were singing at the end of the game, the announcer said that Penn had beaten Harvard, allowing our title run to continue. Each of us stopped singing and started celebrating on the field.
DS: What are your post-Dartmouth plans?
JP: Hopefully, the NFL. If not, I'd really like to pursue a law career.
DM: I plan to go to med school post-Dartmouth. I'm applying to multiple schools. It's exciting because my future is wide open, and I have no idea where I'll wind up going after Dartmouth.
DS: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
JP: I would travel home because I miss my family.
DM: I would love to go to New Zealand and explore the area. It's one place I haven't gone, but is on my bucket list.
DS: Who has had the biggest influence on your life and why?
JP: I'm blessed to have a lot of different people in my life who have tried to teach me the right way to live and how to treat others. I couldn't name just one person.
DM: My family 10000%. I've always been a family-oriented guy and my family's opinions really matter to me. I always want to make those who have always been there for me proud, and that's my family.
DS: What is your favorite memory of your childhood?
JP: Spending the holidays with my family.
DM: My favorite memory from my childhood is all the times I played football with my dad and brothers. We always threw the football in the front yard and I really find joy remembering those times. Football has always been a huge part of our lives.
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
JP: I would swap places with
Dylan Mellor so I could have a six pack, be fast, and play wide receiver.
DM: 100%
Drew Hunnicutt. Are you kidding me? He's the greatest guy I've ever met. The kid embodies every bit of being a STAR and exemplifies the CARE acronym to a T.
DS: What does being a member of the Big Green family mean to you?
JP: It means being a part of something that's bigger than yourself. There's a reason that alumni come back to visit Dartmouth so often, and there are so many more opportunities here than other places.
DM: The Big Green family is everything to me. I have found my brothers for life and the bond we share is unreal. I know I can count on each and every one of my teammates to have my back. That's a great feeling.
DS: If you could go back to freshman year and give yourself advice, what would it be?
JP: I would tell myself to stick strictly to government courses instead of trying to take engineering and economics courses. I would also tell myself to play to my fullest ability.
DM: I would tell myself to do everything the exact same way I did it. I like to live my life with no regrets.
DS: What do you like most about living in the Upper Valley?
JP: Tuk Tuk Thai and Murphy's, for sure.
DM: The Upper Valley is unique, to say the least. Campus is beautiful and is truly like a four-seasons resort. I love the fall here when the leaves change color. Outside constantly looks like a painting.
DS: Who would play you in the movie version of your life?
JP: Mike Colter, the guy who plays Luke Cage.
DM: I'd like to think I would play myself. No one knows me better than me.
DS: You step outside tomorrow morning and find a lottery ticket that ends up winning $10 million (after taxes). What would you do with the money?
JP: I would invest it and try to make more money.
DM: I would take $2 million and buy myself an island. Then I'd take the leftover of that $2 million and use it for incidentals and living expenses. Then I would invest the remaining $8 million. There would be a good chance no one would ever see me again and the island would be by invite only.
DS: If you participate in any service activities, what are they and how did you get involved?
JP: I joined Alpha Phi Alpha my sophomore fall. We do a lot of community service, and that was really one of the main reasons that I became a member.
DM: I'm involved in the DFYB Club. It's a very exclusive club that not many people have the privilege of being in. I got involved almost immediately when I got to Dartmouth. It's a club that teaches the core meaning and value of having someone else's back.
DS: What is one of your pre-game rituals?
JP: I sing as loud as I can in the locker room before the game. It annoys my teammates, but it gets me excited.
DM: My pre-game rituals are pretty basic. I like to listen to music and stay relatively quiet. It helps me get in the zone.
