HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's soccer team played in its fifth straight overtime match and seventh out of their last eight games. This time, the Big Green picked up their fourth tie of the year Saturday night with a 1-1 draw at home against Yale. Senior
Yima Asom scored for Dartmouth off an assist from
Jesse Scanlon.
Dartmouth (3-4-4, 0-0-2 Ivy) was outshot by Yale (4-3-2, 0-1-1 Ivy) 17-9 and 6-2 on goal. The Bulldogs finished with a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Goalkeeper
Henry Stusnick picked up the decision after being put in the game in the 35th minute.
Yale started the match with two shots in the 11th and 12th minutes but one went wide and the other was blocked by the Dartmouth defense.
Noah Paravicini had the first shot on goal for the Big Green in the 23rd minute but it went right into the hands of the Bulldog keeper. Yale finished the half with a couple more chances but could not convert as both teams went into the break scoreless.
It took less than 10 minutes for the Bulldogs to get on the scoreboard. In the 54th minute, Paolo Carrol sent a pass from the end line to Aldo Quevedo in front of the net and he sneaked it past the keeper to make it 1-0 Yale.
Dartmouth had a quick response,
Zach Kalk sent a cross in front of the goal and sent the Yale defense scrambling. Scanlon then found Asom who launched it to the top-right corner of the net to tie the match at one in the 63rd minute. Both teams battled in the closing minutes and there was no winner at the end of regulation, forcing overtime.
It was a defensive struggle in both overtime periods as neither side could score, finishing the match in a tie.
Dartmouth returns to Burnham Field next Saturday when they take on Penn at 4:30 p.m.
