PRINCETON, N.J. – The Ivy League released its men's soccer postseason awards Wednesday and six members of the Dartmouth men's soccer team received recognition. Seniors
Eduvie Ikoba and
Jonny Nierenberg along with freshman
Matt Pickering have been named to the first team. Sophomore
Dawson McCartney was selected to the second team and juniors
Henry Baldwin and
Braden Salvati earned an honorable mention nod.
Ikoba earned his third All-Ivy award and was named to the First Team for the second time in his four-year career. The forward used his overwhelming size and speed to his advantage in limited time, proving to be one of the toughest players to defend. From Bettendorf, Iowa, Ikoba played in only six games this season as he dealt with an injury and did all of his damage in the final three games of the year. Ikoba scored twice against Harvard, picked up an assist and an overtime goal at Cornell and finished the season with two goals against Brown. Despite not having played in enough games to be eligible for the league leaders, Ikoba still finished tied for third in the Ivy League in goals with five and top-10 in points with 11. The senior was named the final Ivy League Player of the Week for the season.
Nierenberg started in all 14 matches that he played this season and showed that he is one of the best defenders in the Ivy League. The senior helped the Big Green to allow the fourth fewest goals in the conference with 17. Dartmouth's success this season was due in large part to its defense. From Sand Point, N.Y., Nierenberg helped hold the Big Green's opponents to only eight goals over the final 11 games of the season as Dartmouth went 7-1-3 to finish the year.
Pickering became one of the best defenders in the conference. From Heathfield, England, Pickering is the only freshman to receive a First Team honor, while the Rookie of the Year from Cornell was selected to the Second Team. Pickering was a major contributor to Dartmouth's shutouts against New Hampshire, UMass, Albany, Harvard, Cornell and Brown.
McCartney collects another Ivy League postseason award with a Second Team nod in 2018 after winning Rookie of the Year and an Honorable Mention Selection in 2017. The sophomore from Voorhees, N.J., finished with three goals and two assists, collecting eight points in 14 games played this season.
Baldwin earned his first Ivy League honor in his junior season with an Honorable Mention selection. The defender from Poulsbo, Wash., started and played in 16 games for the Big Green and consistently did not allow opposing offenses to get in a rhythm.
Also earning his way onto the Honorable Mention Team was Salvati. The junior from Del Mar, Calif., scored two goals with one coming in each of the final two games against Cornell and Brown. Salvati played in 16 matches this season and got the starting nod in 15 games.
