HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League unveiled its offensive and defensive finalists this afternoon for the Asa S. Bushnell Cup, which honors the Ivy League Football Players of the Year, and Dartmouth cornerback
Isiah Swann was one of the two chosen on defense. Joining him was Harvard lineman Stone Hart, while the offensive finalists both came from Princeton in quarterback John Lovett and wide receiver Jesper Horsted.
A finalist for the STATS Buck Buchanan Award for the National Defensive Player of the Year, unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection and All-New England pick, Swann proved to be one of the top cover men in the country, leading the nation with nine interceptions to set a new Dartmouth single-season record. He also broke up nine other passes to rank third among FCS players with 1.8 passes defended per game.
Swann, a product of Chandler High School out of Queen Creek, Arizona, twice was chosen as the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week during the 2018 campaign, following victories over Georgetown and Holy Cross, against the latter of which he registered three interceptions to become the first Big Green player to do so in 28 years. The 6-0, 190-pound cornerback also recorded 39 tackles, recovered a fumble and returned one his interceptions 54 yards for a touchown in a 41-18 triumph at Yale.
Swann will enter his senior year having played in every Dartmouth contest in his career with 110 tackles, two for a loss with a sack, 13 interceptions (tied for the program record) and 21 passes broken up for a total of 34 passes defended.
This is the ninth year that the league has announced finalists for the honor, and the sixth in which Dartmouth has had a player among them. Running back Nick Schwieger shared the award in 2010 and was a finalist again the following year when the award was split into an offensive and defensive component. In 2014, quarterback Dalyn Williams was up for the offensive award, and linebacker Will McNamara was listed for the defensive honor the following year before linebacker Folarin Orimolade took home the defensive prize in 2016.
The Ivy League and the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) are once again partnering to co-host the announcement of the Bushnell Cup, which will be presented at a special reception and press conference presented by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses in the Mercury Ballroom of the New York Hilton Midtown on Monday, Dec. 3 beginning at 12:30 p.m. This year's announcement will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
The two offensive and two defensive finalists, along with their respective head coaches, will be on hand as Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris unveils the winners' names in front of a packed crowd of media representatives, NFF Board members and Ivy League football alumni, dignitaries and friends.
