"We are still battling and trying to earn a victory out here on the west coast," said Belle Koclanes, the Gail Koziara Boudreaux '82 and Family Head Coach of Women's Basketball. "We're seeing a lot of athletic and speedy guards, so a lot of small ball. There were a ton of lead changes tonight and we led in most statistical categories. We are learning a lot of lessons out west, we are talking about how incredible it is going to be when everybody shows up to compete on the same day, then we are going to start winning these games." Koclanes continued.
Dartmouth raced out to a fast start. After Fullerton got on the board first with a two, Lippold put the Big Green on the board with a triple to give Dartmouth a 3-2 lead. McKenna and Quinones kept it rolling with consecutive layups and Brown made a three and a layup within 30 seconds of each other to extend the lead to 12-6 with 4:39 to go in the first. Lenart continued the run with a bucket, a free throw and Louie capped it off with a layup to complete a 17-4 Dartmouth run to give the Big Green a 17-6 lead with 2:33 on the clock. Fullerton finished the first on a 6-0 run to close the gap to 17-12 at the end of one.
McKenna and Louie began the second with back-to-back layups to give the Big Green a 21-12 lead early in the quarter. Fullerton then went on an 11-5 run to close the gap to 26-23 at the media timeout with 4:22 left in the half. After Lippold made a jumper to extend the lead to five, the Titans finished the half on a 10-3 run that was capped off by a three with one second on the clock to give Fullerton a 35-31 advantage at halftime.
Fullerton began the third with the first two points to extend its lead to six. That was quickly erased by Dartmouth as Lenart, Brown and Quinones all hit shots to even the score at 37 with 7:19 to go in the quarter. Lenart then made two free throws to give the Big Green the lead and Quinones, Brown and Lippold all made layups to make it an eight-point Dartmouth advantage. Fullerton came racing back and ended the third the same way they did the first two quarters, this time the Titans outscored Dartmouth 10-3 to tie it at 48 at the end of three.
McKenna's triple in the early going of the fourth put the Big Green ahead 51-50 and Dartmouth held onto that slim lead for much of the quarter. Louie connected on a layup to put Dartmouth ahead 55-53 with 6:28 to go in regulation. Both sides then traded free throws until Louie picked up her 13th point of the game with a layup to make it a 62-58 Dartmouth lead with 3:29 on the clock. Fullerton used another late run, outscoring the Big Green 9-0 to take the lead and finish the game, stealing the victory from Dartmouth.
Dartmouth wraps up its west coast trip with a meeting at the University of San Diego at 5 p.m. ET at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
