HANOVER, N.H. – Sophomore
Emily McLaughlin scored her first collegiate goal in Dartmouth women's hockey's 2-1 loss to Rensselaer at Thompson Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Big Green end the weekend with an overall mark of 3-8-1 and are 2-5-0 in ECAC Hockey play, while the Engineers improved to 5-8-4 and 3-3-0.
McLaughlin picked up her second point of the weekend, after assisting on Dartmouth's first goal on Friday. Freshmen
Gabby Billing and
Sara McClanahan also had a point apiece by assisting.
"This was a tough one to lose," head coach
Laura Schuler said. "I think we just ran out of time in this one. I thought we did a good job with the goalie being pulled there at the end, although we didn't finish. RPI's goalie played very well. Going forward, we need to find more ways to create higher quality scoring chances."
It was an evenly matched battle at the start of the game, with both teams' defense denying any quality shots. At 7:53 of the first, RPI got on the board and, although Dartmouth came alive in the final few minutes, the Engineers took their slight edge into the second.
Another RPI tally at 5:17 of the second made it a two-goal game. Senior netminder
Christine Honor had some good saves to bring her two-period total to 18.
There were a combined four penalties in four minutes midway through the third, but neither team was able to score while skating with the extra player. At 12:02, after having made back-to-back saves, goalie Lovisa Selander made another, but dropped the puck, leading to a frenzy in the crease. McLaughlin was able to get the puck past Selander, with the assists going to Billing and McClanahan.
The Big Green will host New Hampshire at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. After that, Dartmouth will not have another game until a Dec. 30 contest at UConn.
