TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY'S GAMES
In the final three games of non-conference play, the Dartmouth softball team takes on Lamar on Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader, before facing Houston Baptist in one game on Wednesday afternoon.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Lamar is having an average year to start the season, sitting at .556 right now and having already started its conference action as well. The Cardinals play in the Southland Conference along with Houston Baptist, and over the weekend took two wins over the Huskies. Junior Savana Guidry is leading the Cardinals with a .349 batting average from 30 hits in 86 at-bats, with two doubles, one triple and nine RBI's. Laura Napoli and Taylor Gruell are leading the pitching staff in time spent on the mound this season, Napoli with a 3.76 ERA while Gruell holds a team-best 3.50. Napoli has pitched 76.1 innings in which she has allowed 56 hits with just five home runs, walked 37 and struck out 35.
LAST TIME AGAINST LAMAR
The Big Green have only faced Lamar twice before, in the 2015 Texas Invitational. In the first meeting between the two teams, the Cardinals took a 6-2 win, before Dartmouth returned the following day to win 5-4. In the win over Lamar, former players Katie McEachern, Megan Averitt, Kathy Dzienkowski and Lourlin Lara all scored for the team in green and white.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
While another women's team with a husky mascot is having another successful season in basketball, the same cannot be said for Houston Baptist which is having a rather slow start to the year. The Huskies just fell in a doubleheader to Lamar over the weekend and are 0-6 in the Southland Conference. One of the three wins Houston Baptist has is over Eastern Kentucky last Wednesday, a team the Big Green just faced over the weekend. Demi Janak is leading the team in hitting with a .333 batting average including 15 hits in 45 at-bats, she's also hit two home runs and two doubles with 12 RBI's. Jessica Patak has started the most games on the mound, with a 4.38 ERA she has pitched 68.2 innings allowing 73 hits including nine home runs, walking 36 and striking out 37.
NEW SEASON, NEW FOES
Houston Baptist joins a handful of teams that Dartmouth is playing for the first time this season. Along with the Huskies, the Big Green took on new opponents in Texas State, Tulsa, Arkansas, Northern Colorado and Houston.
LAST TIME OUT
Over the weekend, Dartmouth participated in the 2018 Houston Round Robin, leaving with three wins and one loss out of four games. On Sunday afternoon, the Big Green completed the two-game sweep of Houston, taking down the host team 6-4 in a game where five different Dartmouth players scored. Taylor Ward and Claire Bird both hit two RBI's each to help take down the Cougars.
IVY LEAGUE LOOMS AHEAD
The midweek action for the Big Green completes their road, non-conference slate, with a trip to Philadelphia this weekend to take on Penn. Dartmouth will host Holy Cross for one game in early April, the last scheduled non-conference game of the year. The season started almost one month ago to the day, and the Big Green have spent all of it on the road, with the first home games next weekend against Columbia.
