GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Dartmouth men's golf team wrapped up the three-day Furman Invitational by climbing two spots on the board into a tie for 13th, matching Winthrop with a 38-over 902. Freshman James Turner was the Big Green's top player, and most consistent, carding an eight-over 224 to tie for 48th in the 119-player field.

North Florida led the tournament wire-to-wire, entering the final day with a 10-stroke lead and built it to 18 with a four-under 284 on Sunday. West Virginia was the runner-up, shooting four-over par today, while Virginia Tech was the only other team to beat par in the final round with a 287 (-1), climbing two spots into third at three-over par, two strokes behind the Mountaineers.

While Turner was the highest finisher for Dartmouth, it was freshman Jason Liu who had the best day, shooting a 72 (E). He birdied the 11th hole to start the day in the shotgun start, then finished with a flourish with four more over the final eight holes to tie for 54th with a nine-over 225.

Turner, meanwhile, made par on 14 times in the round, adding a solitary birdie on the par-4 third hole. Throughout all three rounds, he had seven birdies and never had worse than a bogey.

With Turner and Liu separated by a single stroke, so were Liu and senior Ian Kelsey, who tied for 58th at 10-over par. Kelsey began the round with a birdie on 10, then dropped two more to finish up with a 76 (+4).

Dartmouth's leader through two rounds, sophomore Will Bednarz, struggled to an eight-over 80 on Sunday, completing the three rounds at 12-over par in a tie for 63rd. But he still managed to post the most birdies (10) for the Big Green.

Freshman Sam Ohno contributed to Dartmouth's 13-over 301 in the final round with his seven-over 79, and sophomore Riley Griffin was 12-over par while playing as an individual.

Phillip Knowles took home medalist honors for North Florida, breaking par in every round, including his two-under 70 today, to shoot nine-under (207) for the tournament. He beat out his teammate, Andrew Alligood, by three strokes as Alligood had the low score on the day with a 68 (-4), matched by another Osprey in Jack Comstock, who was playing as an individual.

Dartmouth returns to the links next weekend at the Cornell Spring Event on March 30-31 in Jupiter, Florida.
