Big Green begin preseason camp on Sunday afternoon.
HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth football team opens its preseason camp on Sunday at 2 p.m. in preparation for the 2018 season. A year after an 8-2 campaign and 5-2 mark in Ivy League play left the Big Green tied for second in the conference standings, Dartmouth will take to Blackman Field as Robert L. Blackman Head Football Coach Buddy Teevens and his staff will get their first opportunity to evaluate the team as a whole — including the Class of 2022 — after a competitive spring on the gridiron.
Dartmouth has five returning starters on offense, three on the line including preseason All-American and tri-captain Matt Kaskey (Sr., 6-7, 325), and a pair of wide receivers in senior Dylan Mellor (Sr., 6-0, 190) and 2016 Ivy League Rookie of the Year Hunter Hagdorn (Jr., 6-0, 185). But Teevens will have an interesting decision to make behind center after the graduation of quarterback Jack Heneghan with Jake Pallotta (Jr., 6-0, 205), Derek Kyler (So., 6-0, 180) and Florida transfer Jake Allen (Fr., 6-3, 200) competing for the starting slot, as well as Wildcat QB Jared Gerbino (Jr., 6-4, 230), who ran for over 200 yards in the season finale last year.
The defense boasts six starters back in the fold, led by tri-captains Jack Traynor (Sr., 6-0, 230) and Kyran McKinney-Crudden (5-Sr., 6-0, 200). Traynor, a unanimous All-Ivy linebacker last year is the third-leading returning tackler in the FCS having piled up 9.8 per game in 2017, while McKinney-Crudden earned All-Ivy honorable mention as a nickelback, ranking third on the Big Green with 61 stops. Dartmouth also has Rocco Di Leo (5-Sr., 6-3, 290) on the defensive line, Jake Moen (Sr., 6-4, 250) at linebacker, Bun Straton (Sr., 6-0, 200) at safety and Isiah Swann (Jr., 6-0, 185) at cornerback ready to fill their starting roles once again.
All practices are tentatively slated to take place on Blackman Field except for the Green-White scrimmage, which will be held at Memorial Field.
