PRINCETON, N.J. –  Led by a career high nine saves by sophomore goalkeeper
Mariel Gordon and a strong defensive effort, the Big Green came away with a scoreless draw against the Princeton Tigers Saturday afternoon in Princeton.
Â
Dartmouth (5-3-2, 1-0-1 Ivy) was outshot by Princeton (6-2-2, 1-0-1 Ivy) 29-3 and 10-1 on goal. The Tigers held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Dartmouth is just the second team this season to hold Princeton scoreless.
Â
"I'm proud of how we battled today," said head coach
Ron Rainey. "That was one of our best efforts defensively and it was a team effort as far as under pressure and corners. We obviously wanted to win, but when you're on an opponent's home field and taking that kind of pressure it felt good to accomplish what we did today."
Â
It was all Princeton in the first half. The Tigers racked off 16 shots, including six on goal while Dartmouth did not get a shot off in the half.
Â
The pressure continued from the Tigers in the second half, but the Big Green defense had an answer to everything that Princeton threw at them.
Remy Borinsky let a shot off in the 61st minute that went wide of the goal. Dartmouth had its best chance in the 89th minute when a shot by
Erin Kawakami was saved, sending the match into overtime.
Â
Dartmouth was outshot 10-0 in overtime. Gordon tallied three saves in extra time keeping the Big Green alive and securing the tie.
Â
Ivy League play continues next Saturday when Dartmouth welcomes Yale to Hanover for a 1 p.m. start.
