CHICAGO – Two members of the Dartmouth men's soccer program were selected in the MLS SuperDraft. Forward
Eduvie Ikoba was taken by FC Dallas in the third round with the 63rd overall pick and not long after, midfielder
Justin Donawa was selected with the 66th pick by the Columbus Crew.
"I am excited that Justin and Eduvie were both drafted today," said
Bo Oshoniyi, the Bobby Clark Head Coach of Men's Soccer. "It shows their body of work over the last four years at Dartmouth, I am looking forward to following both of them as they embark on their next chapters in their careers."
From Bettendorf, Iowa, Ikoba burst onto the scene at Dartmouth his freshman year, tying the team lead with four goals. He had his breakout season as a junior in 2017, scoring eight goals and assisting on three more, earning a spot on the All-Ivy League First Team and the NSCAA All-Region team. Ikoba finished his Dartmouth career battling through injuries, but once the senior was healthy he put his talents on full display, he scored five goals and picked up an assist in the final three games of the season earning First Team All-Ivy recognition and All-Region honors.
"I'm extremely thankful to FC Dallas for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to giving my best effort towards the team," said Ikoba. "I'm also thankful to all my coaches and teammates at Dartmouth for helping me reach this point. Overall I'm just excited for what the future brings!"
From Sandys, Bermuda, Donawa only saw action in six games this past season as he dealt with an injury of his own, but scored in back-to-back games against UMass and Albany and picked up an assist at Princeton. He earned an Ivy League Honorable mention nod his freshman season after finishing with one goal and three assists and repeated the same award his sophomore season, tallying three goals and four assists. Donawa's best year came his junior season when he scored three goals and set a career high with eight assists, earning First Team All-Ivy League honors.
"I'm extremely grateful to the Columbus Crew SC Organization," said Donawa. They're giving me the opportunity of a lifetime and I'm looking forward to getting the ball rolling in preseason."
Both Ikoba and Donawa were major contributors to the Big Green's success over the last four seasons as Dartmouth captured the Ivy League title in 2015, '16 and '17, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in each of those seasons.
This is the third consecutive season that the Big Green have been represented in the MLS Draft. Wyatt Omsberg '18 and Matt Danilack '18 were both drafted in the 2018 draft and Stefan Cleveland '17 was chosen in 2017.
