Alex Budnik tied his career high with seven saves
HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's soccer team kept its Ivy League championship hopes alive Saturday night with a scoreless draw against Columbia at Burnham Field.
Down in Philadelphia, Penn used an overtime penalty kick to give Yale its first Ivy League loss of the year and open up the race for the conference title.
The Big Green (5-6-2, 2-1-1 Ivy) are now tied for second place in the league standings with Penn and Princeton. The Lions (3-5-4, 1-1-2 Ivy) live to fight another day with the season winding down.
Alex Budnik was tremendous in goal, tying his career high with seven saves, stopping five in the first half and two in the second which included a full extension game-saving denial in the 83rd minute.
Kota Sakurai led the Big Green offensively with three shots and one on goal.
Dartmouth's best chance to score came on a missed penalty kick in the 25th minute when Columbia's keeper dove to his right to make the save.
The Big Green had back-to-back corner kicks in the 77th minute and Sakurai and Tiger Graham each had shots in the final minutes of the second overtime that were unsuccessful.
Dartmouth heads on the road Saturday for a matchup against Harvard at 7 p.m.
