Patrick Murphy and Ohad Yahalom netted their first career goals
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Dartmouth men's soccer moved into sole possession of second place in the Ivy League standings after defeating Harvard, 3-1, on the road Saturday night.
Patrick Murphy and Ohad Yahalom both scored their first career goals, while Zach Kalk netted the second of his career to seal the deal.
Alex Budnik came through in the clutch, coming away with six saves on the night.
The Big Green (6-6-2, 3-1-1 Ivy) pull their record back to .500 and pick up their 10th point in the league standings, two behind first place Yale, with two matches left to play. The Crimson (0-12-1, 0-5-0) are still in search of their first win of 2019.
Making his sixth career appearance and third start, Murphy received a midfield pass from Yahalom and raced in front of every Harvard defender and beat the keeper to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead in the third minute.
The Crimson used a penalty kick by Willem Ebbinge to even the score at one in the ninth minute. The goal was the first of Ebbinge's career and put an end to a six-game scoreless streak for Harvard.
Dartmouth took back the lead seconds before halftime. In the 45th minute, David Alino sent a cross on the ground to Kalk who had an open look and made the most of it, making it a 2-1 lead at the break.
Dartmouth added its insurance goal in the 51st minute. Jordan Bailon got it started with a restart that found the heads of Mothibi Penn-Kekana and Braden Salvati to eventually find Yahalom who turned and fired to the bottom-left corner.
Budnik made five of his six saves in the second half to keep the Big Green on top and secure the win.
Dartmouth plays its final home match of the season at 1 p.m. on Saturday against Cornell. The Big Green will celebrate their six seniors.
