Dartmouth honored its seven seniors after the match
HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth men's soccer fell in its Burnham Field finale, 3-1, to Cornell Saturday afternoon. Zach Kalk scored the lone goal for the Big Green (6-7-2, 3-2-1 Ivy), while the Big Red (9-5-2, 2-2-2 Ivy) had goals from Brandon Morales and John Scearce.
Dartmouth will now wait for the Yale result at Brown to see if they are still alive for an Ivy League championship. That game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Cornell defeats Dartmouth for the first time since 2013.
Alex Budnik came through with a diving save in the sixth minute to keep it scoreless early on. Cornell broke the tie in the 13th minute when Brady Dickens found Morales to make it 1-0.
Just a few minutes later the Big Green tied things up. In the 19th minute, Matthew Ranieri raced up the right side of the field and sent a cross to Kota Sakurai who touched it off to Kalk who scored his third goal of the season.
Cornell got on the board again in the 23rd minute, this time on an own goal to take a 2-1 advantage. Dartmouth outshot the Big Red, 3-1, for the remainder of the half.
The insurance goal for Cornell came early in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Will Citron split the Big Green defense to find Scearce who sent a high ball towards net that was over the goalkeepers' head to extend the lead to 3-1.
At the conclusion of the match, team manager Jojo Boyle, Jesse Scanlon, Will Chisholm, Henry Stusnick, Braden Salvati, Zach Kalk and Henry Baldwin were honored for their contributions on and off the field.
Dartmouth plays its final game of the season at Brown on Saturday at 4 p.m.
