HANOVER, N.H. – Gabby Billing scored in Dartmouth's 6-1 loss to Maine at Thompson Arena on Friday evening.
The unassisted tally was the second of the season for the sophomore and the fifth of her career. In net, freshman
Hannah Humphreys made 22 saves.
A strong first period for the Black Bears saw the visitors take a three-goal advantage into the second. The Big Green had some chances and were only narrowly trailing in shots, 11-10, but goalie Carly Jackson stayed perfect for the first 20 minutes.
Dartmouth found its way back into the game in the second and Billing's unassisted tally at 12:31 got the Green on the board and within two goals. Less than 90 seconds later, however, Maine was back to make it a 4-1 contest.
The Black Bears scored their fifth of the night at 3:59 of the third to further increase their lead. A Maine penalty opened things up for Dartmouth, who took six shots in a row to try and get something going. After killing off that penalty, the visitors scored another at 13:35. Freshman
Currie Putrah had a nice shot late in the period but was stopped by Jackson.
Maine had a 28-17 shot advantage. They went 2-for-4 on the power play, while Dartmouth went 0-for-3.
The Big Green and the Black Bears will be back for game two at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
