NEW HAVEN, Vt. – The Dartmouth equestrian team had a successful season, clinching the reserve regional title behind Vermont on Saturday at Middlebury in an exciting finish to the 2018-19 regular season.
At the show, Dartmouth finished third. In total, 11 teams compete in the same region as the Big Green.
Captain
Olivia Champ '19 started off the day strongly, winning Open Fences. Later in the day, Champ placed first in Open Flat, qualifying her for a High Point Rider ride-off, which she would win. Champ has also qualified for Regionals in Open Fences and will be competing for a chance to go to Nationals. With many strong rides all season, Champ ended the year with the region's second-highest combined score in Open Flat and Fences.
Co-Captain
Erin McCarthy-Keeler '19 also had a great ride, placing third in Open Fences and Intermediate Flat. McCarthy-Keeler will go straight through to Nationals this year in Syracuse for the Teresa McDonald Scholarship Challenge, her third time doing so since joining Dartmouth's team. As a passionate horsewoman, she has mastered skills in horse care and veterinary knowledge, which helped her score as one of the top two test-takers in all of Zone I.
Freshman
Tori Bergstein wrapped up the fences section of the competition with a first-place finish in Novice fences. Team manager
Suehayla Mohieldin '19, rode in a competitive class and took away third place in Novice Flat. Freshman
Maria Roodnitsky finished the day on a high note in Walk Trot, placing second.
With a wrap in the regular season, the next show is at Dartmouth on March 30 at Morton Farm for Zone 1 Region 2 Regional Championships. Champ,
