Dartmouth Has Successful Weekend at Coast Guard, BC and Roger Williams

First place at Coast Guard, Second at BC and Fourth at Roger Williams

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Dartmouth sailing team took home three top-five finishes this past weekend highlighted by a victory in the Vietor Trophy at Coast Guard. The Big Green came in second out of six teams at the Eagle Team race at Boston College and finished fourth out of ten in the Friis Trophy hosted by Roger Williams.

The team of seniors Mary Amis and Emma White, sophomore Kathryn Hall and freshman Carlota Hopkins-Guerra took first place at the Vietor Trophy with 101 points. All 18 teams battled breezes from 10 to 30 knots on Saturday and were met with more manageable conditions on Sunday. Amis and White raced in the A Division and took seven top five finishes including three in first place out of the 12 races. In the B division, Hall and Hopkins-Guerra came in the top five in nine races with two first-place finishes.

A group of nine from Dartmouth finished second in the Eagle Team Race at Boston College. Senior Lisa Genthner, junior Noah Simmons, sophomores Michael Tellini, Christopher Cheng, Josh Cherner, Kasey Rhee and Max Clapp and freshmen Cole Harris and Annika Rogers competed for the Big Green. Saturday races were postponed to Sunday because of poor weather conditions. In round one, Dartmouth beat Bowdoin, Tufts and Rhode Island and fell to BC and Brown. In the second round the Big Green took down Tufts, BC, Rhode Island and Bowdoin while dropping a race to Brown for the second-place finish.

In the Friis Trophy at Roger Williams, the team of seniors Christopher Williford, Rebecca McElvain and Alyssa Berger, juniors Jack McGraw, Audrey Giblin and Paige Clarke and sophomore Timothy Greenhouse took fourth place out of 10 teams. Dartmouth won six out of its nine races, defeating Yale, BC, Bowdoin, MIT, Tufts and Boston University. The Big Green lost to Stanford, Roger Williams and Fordham for the fourth-place finish.

The Big Green are scheduled for three races next weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Dartmouth will be at Brown for the Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy, Tufts for the Jumbo Team Race and MIT for the Lynn Marchiando Team race.
