HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth sailing opened its spring season this weekend, competing at four regattas in Rhode Island. The weekend was highlighted by a three-way tie for first place at the Harvard Women's Team Race, hosted at Brown.
Dartmouth lost only one race at, sailing to a 7-1 record at the Harvard Women's Team Race. The Big Green went 1-1 against the Brown Bears, also sailing to wins over Harvard, MIT, Roger Williams, Tufts, Rhode Island and Yale. The Big Green had teams earn the first and second finishing positions in three of their seven total wins.
The Big Green battled through snow on Sunday, before racing in sunny skies the remainder of the race. Dartmouth officially wrapped the Harvard Women's Team Race in a three-way tie for first with yale and Brown. Lack of wind cancelled the sail-off, ending the regatta in a tie.
At the Liam O'Keefe Trophy, the Big Green went 2-5 on the water, finishing tied for fifth overall. Dartmouth posted wins over MIT and Tufts, earning the first and second finishing position in both their wins.
The Big Green also earned the first-place finishing position against Roger Williams and a second-place finishing position against Harvard, but it wasn't enough to power Dartmouth to the win.
In the first McMerrick Team Race on Saturday, the Big Green sailed to an 8-5 record and fourth place overall finish. In round one, Dartmouth posted a 4-2 record, earning wins over Bowdoin, Boston University twice and Rhode Island. The Big Green sailed to first and second place finishing positions in three of their four wins.
In round two, the Big Green went 4-3 overall, this time falling to Rhode Island but adding a win over Vermont who they did not compete against in the first round.

Ava Hurwitz, and Abbi Deng swept the top-three finishing positions against BU, also claiming the first and second finishing positions in another race over BU and against the Catamounts.
Dartmouth also competed in the one-day McMerrick Team Race regatta on Sunday, posting a 5-2 record to claim third overall. The Big Green earned wins over Bowdoin, BU, Tufts, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
The Big Green swept the top three finishing positions against UVM and earned the top two spots in three of their remaining four victories.
The spring season will continue on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 when the Big Green compete in three regattas. Dartmouth will sail in the Szambecki Team Race hosted by Old Dominion, the Georgetown Women's Team Race in Washington, D.C. and the St. Mar's College Team Race Invite in Maryland.
