The Big Green will once again look to finish higher than projected
HANOVER, N.H. – The Ivy League announced its 2019 preseason media poll Wednesday afternoon and the Dartmouth women's soccer team is predicted to finish in fourth place, which is one spot below where they finished last season.
At the top of the poll is two-time defending champion Princeton, who received 120 points and 10 votes to repeat. Penn is slotted to finish second with 112 points and five first-place votes and Harvard is third with 80 points and the remaining top vote.
Dartmouth follows with 76 points and the poll rounds out with Columbia (74), Brown (59), Yale (37) and Cornell (18). Â
Last season, the Big Green exceeded expectations by placing third in the Ivy League standings after they were picked to finish seventh in the 2018 preseason poll. The team will look to have a similar result this time around.
Four returners earned All-Ivy honors a season ago. Junior defender Bonnie Shea collected a First Team selection and the trio of junior forward Erin Kawakami, senior defender Alyssa Neuberger and junior goalkeeper Mariel Gordon collected Honorable Mention nods.
Out of the 20 returning players, 13 recorded a point and nine scored a goal in 2018. Dartmouth starts the season with back-to-back home contests against Pittsburgh on Aug. 30 and Syracuse on Sept. 1. Both games are set to begin at 1 p.m.
