HANOVER, N.H. — The fourth week of "Big Green Classic" — live streams of Dartmouth fall sporting events from the recent past with commentary from some of the players and coaches — will feature the 2017 women's volleyball home match between the Big Green and Princeton. The event will be streamed Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. on the
Dartmouth Sports YouTube channel with alumnae
Sara Lindquist '18 and
Carly Tower '20, along with the head coach
Gilad Doron and assistant coach
Zoe Leonard '19 (who also played on that team) to discuss the contest and their Dartmouth experiences with host Brett Franklin.
This match was the season finale for both teams as the Big Green entered as the underdog with a record of 9-13 overall and 5-8 in Ivy League play, though they had won two of their last three matches. The Tigers, meanwhile, were sitting atop the conference standings at 10-3 (17-6 overall) and merely needed to beat Dartmouth to clinch the outright title over Yale.
Dartmouth had an intimidating front, leading the league with nearly 2.5 blocks per set. Tower, a middle blocker from Windermere, Florida, was third in the Ancient Eight as just a sophomore with 94 blocks for 1.12 per set (second-best in program history) and finished her career with 206, a figure that ranks 10th in the Big Green volleyball career annals. She also registered 319 kills in her four years in Hanover and wrapped up her career with an attack percentage of .217.
An outside hitter from Mercer Island, Washington, team co-captain Lindquist was playing in the final match of her Dartmouth career on Senior Day. The CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and Academic All-Ivy League performer finished the season with a team-best 185 kills and was fourth with 40 blocks. Seven times during the season she posted at least 10 kills in a match, including three of her last four contests.
Leonard, who was a libero for the Big Green before joining the coaching staff, hails from Hilo on the big island of Hawaii and was a junior that season, serving as a captain for the first of two years. She ranked third on the team in service aces and fourth in digs, and the following year was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team while earning a spot on the Academic All-Ivy League Fall Team.
Be sure to tune in to the
Dartmouth Sports YouTube channel on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. to watch the match unfold and hear insight on the strategies and behind-the-scenes discussions.
