HANOVER, N.H. - Kira Koehler, a senior member of the Big Green field hockey team, was one of five students who helped Dartmouth win the 17th annual national College Fed Challenge on Friday afternoon.
The competition encourages students to learn about the U.S. economy, monetary policymaking, and the role of the Federal Reserve System, the government body entity that sponsors the event.
This year, the challenge was held virtually with 85 schools from across the nation participating with submitted video presentations or local virtual competitions. The field was narrowed down to 18 semifinalists for question-and-answer sessions and then six finalists for one more presentation and discussion with an evaluation panel.
At the end of the final round, Koehler and her Dartmouth teammates (Ayan Agarwal, Utsav Jalen, Tench Coxe and Zach Olson) were named this year's winners. The team from St. Lawrence was second with Princeton taking third.
Teams were evaluated on economic analysis, responses to judges' questions, teamwork, and presentation. The judges for the final round of the competition were: Antulio Bomfim, Special Adviser to the Board, Monetary Affairs; Ellen Meade, Senior Adviser, Monetary Affairs and Special Adviser to Vice Chair Richard Clarida; Thomas Lubik, Senior Advisor, Economic Research and Policy, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond; and Maggie Sklar, Senior Policy Advisor and Director of International Engagement, Financial Markets Group, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
