HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth quality control coach Jennifer King has been hired as a full-time coaching intern by Washington of the National Football League. She is the first African-American female assistant football coach in the NFL.
King spent the 2019 season working with the Big Green football team that finished the season ranked 21st in the FCS with a 9-1 record and an Ivy League title.
Washington Head Coach Ron Rivera has a previous history with King as she served as an intern for the Carolina Panthers in 2018 and 2019. "Jennifer is a bright young coach and will be a great addition to our staff," Rivera said through a prepared statement. "Her familiarity with my expectations as a coach and my firsthand knowledge of her work ethic and preparation were big factors in bringing her to the Redskins."
King is Dartmouth's second female quality control coach to be hired by the NFL. Callie Brownson, the Big Green offensive QC coach in 2018, spent the past season with the Buffalo Bills and recently was hired by the Cleveland Browns as their Chief of Staff.
It was reported by Rhiannon Walker of TheAthletic.com that King will be paid as a coach despite the intern title and could move into a formal coaching position after the season.
