Victory in the Final Second for Men's Lacrosse
March 26, 2011: Men's Lacrosse defeats #17 Harvard as time expires
Sophomore Nikki Dysenchuk scored in the final second of regulation to push Dartmouth past 17th-ranked Harvard, 9-8, at Scully-Fahey Field. The Big Green victory pushed their record back over .500 at 4-3 and ended the Crimson's four-game winning streak.
Dartmouth held an 8-6 lead with 3:47 remaining in the fourth quarter but could not stop the late attack by Harvard. The Crimson cut that edge to one following a goal by Ryan Stevens and then tied the contest on a man-up goal by Jeff Cohen with 1:16 left in the game.
With time quickly winding down and overtime looking more and more likely, Dysenchuk took the ball from behind the net and attacked from the right side. He blew past the defender and fired a low line drive that beat the goalie just as time was expiring.
Junior Fergus Campbell tied a season-high by making 17 saves in the victory. He was also pivotal in slowing down a Harvard offense that came into the game averaging 12.67 goals per game. Sophomore Chris Costabile led the team with three goals, while junior Drew Tunney had one tally and one assist. In all, seven different Dartmouth players recorded a goal, including a career-first for senior Adam Boardman.
