HANOVER, N.H. — Following the completion of the 2020 NFL Draft, two Dartmouth football players signed free agent contracts with teams in the league — Isiah Swann with the Cincinnati Bengals and Niko Lalos with the New York Giants.
A 6-0, 195-pound native of Queen Creek, Arizona, Swann was a two-time All-American cornerback for the Big Green, helping Dartmouth post a record of 30-10 in his career and 18-2 over the last two seasons with an Ivy League title this past fall. A two-time All-New England selection and three-time All-Ivy honoree, he was the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year as a junior when he led all of Division I with nine interceptions, breaking a Big Green record. He was also a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award as the top defensive player in the FCS, finishing fifth in the final voting. This past season he was among the top 20 among FCS player with 15 passes defended despite missing the first three games, breaking up 11 passes and intercepting four more to lead the Ancient Eight, once again being named a finalist for the Buchanan Award.
Swann missed just those three games of the 40 over his four seasons, earning a starting slot midway through his freshman campaign. He finished his collegiate career with 141 tackles (101 solo), 2.5 for a loss with one sack, 32 pass breakups and a school-record 17 interceptions, four of which he returned for a touchdown for another program record. He capped his career by playing in the East-West Shrine Bowl, the first Dartmouth player to do so in 16 years.
Lalos, a 6-5, 270-pound defensive end hailing from Akron, Ohio, was one of the top Big Green pass rushers over the past two seasons, recording 10.5 sacks in that span. As a junior, he saw regular time on a deep defensive line that featured four All-Ivy honorees, including himself as an honorable mention while collecting five sacks among his 17 tackles while batting down a pair of passes at the line. This past fall, Lalos ranked fourth in the Ivy League with 5.5 sacks and seventh with 10.0 tackles for a loss and 35 total stops, not to mention seven passes defended which includes a pick-six at Yankee Stadium against ninth-ranked Princeton.
Following the season, Lalos was named to the All-Ivy League First Team and Division All-New England Team before starring in the Hula Bowl as he was named his team's MVP by registering two sacks and forcing a fumble in the all-star game.
