April 5, 1996: PERFECT! Christina Maybaum '98 delivers only perfect game in program history
The first of six no-hit pitching performances in Dartmouth softball history just so happens to be the only perfect-game ever delivered by a member of the Big Green.
A member of the inaugural 1995 varsity season, perfection came for Maybaum in her sophomore year in 1996 at Sachem Field against Columbia. Maybaum struck out four batters, forced 11 ground outs, made three Lions' either pop out or line out in the infield, and only two balls were hit to the outfield, both of which were secured by Julia Doster '97 in center and Amy Coelho '97 in right.
Maybaum went blow-for-blow with Columbia's Dee Cunningham in the circle. Both pitchers were pitching shutouts until the Big Green plated all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bess Tortolani '98 went 1-for-2 at the plate with a two-run single and scored the final run when Jane Peachy '99 lofted a sacrifice fly.
According to the official box score, the game lasted exactly one hour, which may very well be the shortest game in program history.
